With it's pretty pastel colors Stained Glass Candy is good anytime of the year, but is especially fun around Easter and in the spring. And it is easy to make!
The ingredients:
2 cups granulated sugar
2/3 cup light corn syrup
3/4 cup water
1 tsp. Candy and Baking Flavoring (Lor Ann Flavoring is pictured and it can be found at Wal-Mart or Hobby Lobby. There are lots of different flavors to choose from.)
Several drops of food coloring (add according to
desired color)
Powdered sugar (optional)
The directions can be found right on the back of the candy flavoring, or you can follow my steps below.
Combine your sugar, corn syrup and water into a 2 qt.
saucepan. Stir over medium heat until the sugar dissolves.
Bring the mixture to a boil without stirring. When the syrup temperature reaches 260 F add in a few drops of food coloring. The more food coloring you add, the richer the color will be. Do not stir the liquid, the boiling will mix the coloring into the syrup for you. Remove from the heat once it reaches 300 F. After it stops boiling add in the flavoring, this time you can stir.
Spray a cookie sheet with
Pam or other spray oil and pour the syrup into the pan. After the candy cools and hardens slightly score candy with a knife to form bite sized pieces.
When the candy is completely cool, break it into
pieces and dust with powdered sugar to prevent sticking. (This can be done in a ziploc bag to prevent a big mess.) Store in an
airtight container.
Enjoy immediately or package into a cute jar to give away as a fun little treat. That isn't part of the official instructions but I'm sure it is implied.
The presentation is so pretty! Thanks for sharing :)
