I have been on the lookout for some cute adoption themed art and I haven't really found much. This is a subject near and dear to my heart so I thought...make my own! Adoption is a wonderful choice that can bless many lives and I think it should be valued and celebrated. If adoption is something you celebrate as well I want to share my creations for you to use in your own home.

My favorite quote that I came away with from the adoption conference is actually a scripture found in Leviticus 19:34-
"But the stranger that dwelleth with you shall be unto you as one born among you, and thou shalt love him as thyself; for ye were strangers in the land of Egypt: I am the Lord your God."
Just ponder that thought for a moment. It is a beautiful one.
I have a nephew that was adopted 4 years ago, I think the superman art would be perfect for him. So cute, thanks for sharing!

First of all, your blog is SO neat, and I really appreciate your talent, AND your obvious love of the Lord!
ReplyDeleteSecond, I don't even know you, but my husband and I will be committing to praying for you and your husband's adoption journey. This is a topic near and dear to our hearts as about four years ago, God opened up the door of adoption by "gifting" us with a beautiful baby girl whom we named Faith, and then 15 months later, with a precious baby brother(biological even) to Faith whom we named Johnny. To make a long story very short, adoption is one of the MOST beautiful, amazing things that we have ever experienced. As we share with Faith who is now four years old, even though her and Johnny didn't grow in my "belly," they for sure grew in Daddy and I's hearts.
We hope that you and your husband will have an experience that blesses you with a child(or children!) God-willing, and that you will be able to see His Hand working out every detail for you, and you will give Him all the glory He is due.

ReplyDeleteAdoption is near and dear to my heart as well as I am a birthparent. 21 years ago I was blessed with two great individuals who chose open adoption. Her parents have done an awesome job and feel blessed every day for the ability to know her parents and my little girl.
You are SO right. There is definitely a niche for "All things Adoption." I am an adopted child. My parents adopted me as an infant 56 years ago. Open adoptions were unheard of at that time. My little brother is also adopted. We always knew we were special. Our parents made a big deal every year of our "Adoption Day." This is the day our adoption was actually final. It was -- and still is -- a bigger deal than our birthdays. I recommend that to anyone I know who expresses interest in adoption. It's a great way to celebrate your "special" day. AND . . . I met my birth mother as an adult. It's been a wonderful experience. I can't tell you how many times both she and I have pored through all kinds of cards trying to find one that would speak to our special relationship. She is not my Mom - my REAL parents are the parents that raised me -- but we have a special relationship. She is something like a favorite aunt. Sending prayers your way that God will bless you with just the right child - and bless that child with just the right parents. I could not have asked for better parents. And now I feel doubly blessed because I also have my birth mother and her husband. I feel guilty, actually, because some kids don't even get one set of great parents. And I've got two! God bless you!

We've been able to see the relationships some of our friends have with their child's birth families and it is special like you said. I also love the idea of celebrating their adoption day! We will definitely make that a tradition in our home. Thank you for your prayers, they mean more than I can say!
DeleteI just happened upon your blog because I was looking for adoption art to add to our blog. We are going through LDSFS to adopt and had made Superman our theme from the start and even before finding this. It is PERFECT! I kind of feel like you made it just for us.

DeleteSo I fell in love with your blog a few days ago because of all of the gift ideas...then I stumbled on the adoption page! My husband and I are adopting our first child, a little girl, who is due June 19th. The process is scary and wonderful all at once and I am praying for you! Our birthmom is fantastic and the whole experience has been amazing. Your baby is out there! Thank you for your blog and for sharing with all of us!

DeleteI adopted my twins 26 years ago. I was single, which was unheard of back then. I t did know their birthmother. She knew I had lost my daughter and could not have anymore. She asked if I wanted him (at the time one boy in 2 weeks as it turned out 2 girls the next morning!). It is not an open adoption. She did not want to know anything about them. But it took a great amount of love for her to give them up because she knew due to her circumstances she could not care for them and that I longed for another child. From the day the were born in my heart they were mine. I always made sure they knew they were my special angels and still do. My advice for you is to always be honset about being adopted even when they are little. Don't give them more info than they are ready for (they'll let you know) and be supportive when people give them or you a hard time about it. (There are adults who will (some in my own family) and children can be cruel.) I knew they were well adjusted to the fact when they came home from the 3rd grade and told me a child had made fun of them because they were adopted. I asked what they said. "we told them we were special and he wasn't cause our mom choose us and his was just stuck with whatever they got and they didn't get much!" I wish you and yours the best and send prayers your way. It is a very special time!
ReplyDeleteI just found your site tonight through Pinterest and one of your recipes. The words "adoption art" caught my eye as we adopted our two foster children last year. Two weeks from today we will celebrate our 1 year adoption anniversary - I am going to print out your Superman art for my son. Will keep searching for my daughter, but will keep checking back in hopes you make more "adoption art" in the future- as it is so hard to find anything creative in regards to children adopted not in infancy. I am going to pin the Superman art to my my "For My Kids" board on Pinterest -- if you do not want it on Pinterest I understand and I will remove it --but I am definitely bookmarking your website :-) Angie
