Christmas Jar Decorations

I’ve seen a lot of fun ideas with painting mason jars, and while I love the look I wanted something a little less permanent for holiday decorations.  I wanted to be able to reuse the jars after the holidays were over so here is my version of Christmas Jars.

Gather up your jars:

And gather up your decorations.  Ribbon, trim, ornaments, beads, vinyl.

I cut the word JOY out of vinyl and put one letter on the front of each jar.  Next I just filled the jars with the beads and ornaments and tied a different piece of ribbon around the top of each one.  I LOVE the way they look, so bright and festive!  And they went together really, really fast.

The best part, everything is removable and reusable.  And this method can be used for any holiday or in your home anytime of the year if you choose colors that match your décor.  Acorns and pinecones for Thanksgiving?  Candy for Halloween, or eggs and flowers for Easter?  Oh the possibilities!

I was talking to my mom the other day and she had a fantastic idea.  She suggested writing the word DISCOVER on a set of jars and then letting kids fill each jar up with something different.  Rocks, leaves, flowers, anything they can find from the outside.  I’m sure they would love to look at the jars in their rooms, playroom, or family room for several days.  And when you’re done with the jars they are easy to disassemble.  Thanks for the great idea mom, I LOVE it!

  2. I'll bet your could even use cardstock for the letters if you didn't have vinyl. Great idea! I especially like that you can reuse the jars and fill with something else!
