Holiday Shelf

When we moved to our new place one of the things I was most excited about was having a "holiday shelf."  It is so silly how excited I was but I really wanted a small space that I could easily decorate for all holidays and seasons.  So right when you walk into our living room there is a small wall that separates the living room from the dining room and I claimed that as my holiday shelf wall!  I set it up using two small Ikea frames, a shelf from the Home Depot, and a mirror that was a $3 yard sale find several years ago.  I love it because it is small so it isn't hard to decorate but it adds just the right festive touch to the house. Here's how it looked the first month we moved in decorated for St. Patrick's Day.

The green mirror worked for the month of March so I didn't worry about changing it, but once April came and Easter rolled around...

Yeah, it didn't look as great.  But in all honesty it stayed that way the whole month.  Real life sometimes people.  It gets in the way.  :)   Finally I got around to it and painted it using the same process as the tray  redo.

Tape off the glass

Spray paint primer

And a couple coats of white paint.
Ahh, much better.

Some simple flowers and my Be Kind print was all the area needed for a touch of spring.  Keeping all the background pieces white makes it a nice blank slate for any holiday or season.

And here is how it currently looks all set up for the Fourth.

On Monday I'll share a little more on how I made the wreath.   It is easy let me tell ya.  My favorite kind of project.

  2. So cute! We are redoing our living room and first floor area. Once we are finished, I plan to decorate the top of my buffet for the holidays. I have a whole plan, I'm so excited! Do you make what you put in the frames under the shelf and do you store everything somehow to reuse again? Thanks!

  3. I usually just use scrapbook paper for the frames below the shelf and I keep all the pieces in a folder in my file cabinet so that I can reuse them again. As for the items on the shelf before I go and buy anything I walk around the house and see what I can "borrow" for the month. This way I'm not spending a lot of money and I don't have a lot to store.
